My Journey with Ocean Hackathon

In 2022 and 2023, I worked closely with the French Embassy in Malaysia to organise the Ocean Hackathon, an 3 days event dedicated to solving marine-related challenges through innovation and technology. As the Coordinator, I played a key role in bringing together participants, managing logistics, and ensuring the event's success.

One of the most rewarding moments was witnessing the dedication and talent of the Malaysian winning team. Their innovative approach earned them a spot at the grand finale in Brest, France, where they competed against top teams from around the world. Bringing them to Brest and seeing them represent Malaysia on an international stage was a proud milestone, reinforcing the power of collaboration and innovation in solving real-world problems.

This journey was not just about the competition—it was about fostering creativity, empowering local talent, and contributing to a global movement for a sustainable future. While the main organiser in France decided to pause the event in 2024, I am excited to continue being part of Ocean Hackathon 2025 as it returns to drive more impactful solutions for ocean sustainability.

Game Jam Laut 2024: Bridging Gaming and Ocean Conservation

In 2024, I took on the challenge of organising Game Jam Laut, a marine and ocean-themed game development event held across four different states (Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Terengganu, Sarawak) in Malaysia. Coordinating a multi-location event was no small feat—it required meticulous planning, logistical coordination, and adaptability to overcome unexpected challenges.

One of the biggest hurdles was managing the delivery of backdrops and goodies to multiple locations. Ensuring that each venue received the necessary materials on time, despite transportation delays and logistical constraints, was a demanding task. The process was time-consuming, requiring constant communication and problem-solving to keep everything on track.

Game Jam Laut Festival: Expanding the Conversation

Beyond the game jam itself, I was also involved in the Game Jam Laut Festival, a celebration of the projects and creativity that emerged from the event. As the representative of the French Embassy, I traveled to Penang to take part in the festival, supporting the initiative’s vision of merging game development with ocean conservation.

During the festival, I had the pleasure of meeting with representatives from the Malaysia Government Penang Education Department. We discussed potential opportunities for more interactions and collaborations, exploring ways to expand the reach of similar events in the future. This conversation was an exciting step toward fostering greater engagement between education, technology, and environmental awareness.
